Perplexity is building the next generation answer engine that helps millions of people find information more effectively. We're looking for an AI Interaction Designer to craft conversations that are clear, helpful, and genuinely useful.

What You'll Do

You'll design how our AI communicates with users, transforming complex queries into clear, actionable responses. This is conversation design at scale—creating the communication patterns that millions of people rely on every day.

This role involves:

• Building evaluation systems that maintain quality as we scale
• Creating feedback loops between user needs and AI improvements
• Collaborating with researchers, product teams, and engineers across the company

What We're Looking For

Exceptional Taste

You have an intuitive sense of what makes communication work. You can spot the difference between a good response and a great one, and you know how to make it better.

Technical Fluency

You don't need to be a researcher, but you can hold your own with our technical teams. You're comfortable with Python, understand how language models work, and can implement your ideas through code. You naturally think about how individual improvements can scale across thousands or millions of interactions. You've built processes that work at scale before.

Curiosity and Drive

You're someone who elevates everyone around them. You have high standards but bring people along rather than leaving them behind. You're fascinated by how people naturally communicate and how technology can serve them better.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated passion for AI and can share specific prompt engineering and chaining projects you're proud of
• Background in data science, philosophy, psychology, linguistics, data science, or related fields
• Familiar with Python and running simple scripts
• High-level understanding of LLMs, training, RL
• Excellent communication skills, particularly in teaching complex concepts
• Creative problem-solving abilities with a "hacker spirit" for solving puzzles
